Amazon is giving new Prime cardholders a free $200 gift card

This card is a no-brainer for any Amazon Prime shopper.

If you're an Amazon Prime member, there's another reason to apply for the Prime Visa (see rates and fees): a $200 Amazon Gift Card, available instantly upon approval and exclusively for Prime members.

Amazon's 2026 Prime Day sale runs from June 23 to 26, so it's a great time to apply for the card — not only for the gift card bonus but also for extra savings at Amazon.

There's no spending requirement to earn this bonus, and on top of the card's standard rewards rates, you can earn 10% back or more on electronics, apparel and other select products through the Prime Card Bonus.

The Prime Visa is only available to Amazon Prime members ($139 for an annual membership and $14.99 for a monthly membership) but is very rewarding for Amazon purchases.

  • High rate of return at Amazon.com, Whole Foods Market and on Chase Travel purchases
  • Offers an automatic gift card welcome bonus after card approval
  • Option to earn rewards or take advantage of 0% promo APRs
  • Includes a wealth of travel insurance protections
  • Requires an Amazon Prime membership for approval
  • If you choose the promo APR, you won't earn rewards on those purchases
  • Rewards can't be pooled with other Chase credit cards

Rewards

  • Earn unlimited 5% back at Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market and on Chase Travel purchases with an eligible Prime membership
  • Unlimited 2% back at gas stations, restaurants, and on local transit and commuting (including rideshare)
  • 10% back or more on a rotating selection of items and categories on Amazon.com with an eligible Prime membership
  • Unlimited 1% back on all other purchases

Balance transfer fee

Either $5 or 4% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater

Amazon Prime Visa Card welcome offer

Prime members approved for a new Prime Visa card will receive a $200 Amazon Gift Card, instantly loaded onto your Amazon account for immediate use.

Prime membership currently costs $14.99 per month ($139 annually). The welcome bonus alone offsets your first year's membership (plus some), and that's before you account for the rewards you'll generate from spending.

Additional benefits and perks

Eligible Prime members also earn:

  • 5% cash back on all purchases at Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods and Chase TravelSM
  • 2% back at restaurants, gas stations and local transit and commuting
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases

The 5% cash back is one of the highest rates of return you'll find on Amazon purchases, and some benefits that come with a Prime membership, like faster shipping, complement the card well. While you might be able to find a card with an equal or higher rate, these are almost always temporary or have a cap on the total rewards you can earn; the Prime Visa offers consistency.

Apart from the welcome bonus and great cash back, the Prime Visa credit card doesn't charge an annual fee or foreign transaction fees. It also offers a mix of shopping and travel protections that increase the card's value. These include:

  • Auto rental coverage
  • Baggage delay insurance
  • Extended warranty protection
  • Lost luggage reimbursement
  • Roadside assistance
  • Travel accident insurance
  • Travel and emergency assistance
  • Purchase protection

As noted above, cardholders will also be eligible for up to 10% back or more on a rotating selection of items and categories on Amazon.com. You'll also get access to Chase Offers, which gives you a statement credit toward purchases with participating merchants.

More credit cards that earn rewards on Amazon purchases

While avid Amazon shoppers are likely to get the most out of the Prime Visa, several other travel and cash-back credit cards offer compelling rewards when shopping at the e-commerce giant.

While the Chase Freedom Flex® doesn't specifically offer rewards at Amazon.com, it allows you to earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 on combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter you activate (then 1%). It's fairly common for Amazon purchases to be included in one of the quarters, meaning you could match the 5% cash back offered by the Prime Visa, up to the $1,500 max at least. The card comes with a $0 annual fee and 3% cash back on dining at restaurants, edging out the 2% offered by the Prime Visa.

The Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express could be a good fit for online shoppers who use more than just Amazon. The card earns 3% cash back on online retail purchases on up to $6,000 per year in eligible purchases, then 1%.

There's a slight trade-off with the lower rewards rate in exchange for more flexibility, but the card comes with a handful of statement credits and an introductory APR period on purchases and balance transfers (see rates and fees), which could help you pay off any larger Amazon purchases you might make.

Cash back comes as Reward Dollars that can be redeemed as a statement credit or at checkout on Amazon.com.

FAQ

The offer is available to new Amazon Prime Visa applicants who are approved and have an active Prime membership. If you're an existing cardholder or have previously received a similar bonus, you may not be eligible.

Yes, the Amazon Prime Visa card requires an active Prime membership to qualify for this sign-up bonus.

Getting approved for an Amazon Prime Visa typically requires good-to-excellent credit (a FICO score of 670 or better). Having a good credit score won't guarantee approval, as there are other criteria for approval — including your income, current debts and the number of other cards you currently have. But the higher your score, the better your chances.
